Good stuff,
by WTR, 2010-08-30
I had the 550 and had to replace it. The 650 does everything the 550 did and more. The 550 worked well one handed. I can not say the same for the 650. It is hard to press the numbers with one hand. It is also hard to use with only one hand. You have to slide it up and down when using one hand. This was not an issue with the old 550.

I have another Harmony that I love. This one has too many buttons (too small to read) and the layout is not easy to use.

All around great remote...built strong...durable and button layout is very comfortable. have been using harmony product for years and this remotes price is outstanding. Works with every electronic component even video game consoles. if you have more than 5 devices i recommend the harmony 670 you can program 15 devices with that one.
Love/Hate relationship with the Harmony 650,
by Book Lover, 2010-08-23
I bought 3 of these Harmony 650 remotes, a Harmony 700 and a Harmony 300. I kept 1 Harmony 650 and returned all the others. The minute I saw the charger on the 700, I knew I wouldn't like it. That went back. I picked up the 300 instead. The Harmony 300 wouldn't work/connect/communicate to/with the Harmony site software. I tried 3 different computers and it wouldn't communicate on any of them. That went back. The 3 Harmony 650s...whew. Where do I start? The very first one I set up worked PERFECTLY (that's the one I'm keeping) and I absolutely LOVE it. I have our Uverse PVR, Sony Wega TV, a 10 year old DVD player and my Roku operated by the 650 and I didn't have one glitch in the set up. All I had to do was enter the products and model numbers and that was IT! Sweet.
Then I set up the second one for my husbands office. All he has in there is the Uverse STB, a Toshiba TV and a Roku. That one worked perfectly too, but HE had no clue how to work it...even after I explained it to him, I still had to go in and push the correct buttons for him...that is NOT going to happen every time he wants to watch TV, sorry. So, that one programmed perfectly and while I LOVED it, he did not. It was too complicated for a non-technical person like him (he has a hard time working a computer too). So I had to return that one.
Then I was sooooo excited to set up the bedroom Harmony 650 remote because the first 2 650s were a CINCH. Boy, what a weekend I had! I started programming that remote on Saturday evening and worked all day Sunday, until 9:00 PM and could NOT get it to work no matter what I did. The TV is a brand new Dynex and I suspect the input controls prevented me from getting it to work....though I really don't know. The Dynex remote has individual buttons for all the "inputs"...TV, HDMI, Components, VGA and then a button that says "Video" that you push once for Av 1 input (the Roku) and push again for Av 2 (the DVD/VCR player) and THEN it also has an "input" button that lets you scroll through that list of inputs with each push of the button it moves down the input list. I tried every darned command on the Harmony software program. If I got the Roku to change to Av 1, then the TV wouldn't go back to TV input when "watch TV" was chosen. If I got the TV to be in TV input, then the Roku wouldn't work and the TV wouldn't change to Av 1. The DVD/VCR was a total bust. IF the TV would change to Av 2, the DVD player wouldn't turn on and NONE of the DVD/VCR controls worked on the Harmony. I suspect I was NOT giving it the correct commands, but I had NO IDEA what other commands it needed. I tried everything they had on the list. IF I had been given a choice (like I was given on the first remote) of choosing "Av 1" for the Roku and choosing "Av 2" for the DVD/VCR, things may have been different, but they didn't have those as choices for the Dynex TV. :( I just couldn't take any more. I had to take it back. It just didn't work.
Then I tried getting help via email. What a joke that was. I typed 2 long emails explaining what was going on and BOTH times I got an error message that the email wasn't sent....they wanted me to keep typing. At that point I was in no mood to keep typing. I also HATE their web site. It just plain old sucks. Also, for EACH remote, you have to create a new account! 4 remotes, 4 different accounts. That just sucks, period.
So, even after all THAT, I still give this remote 5 stars because the 1 that works works GREAT! I downloaded some VERY nice icons and now have 6 pages of my most used favorite channels and it is HEAVEN to have that and it works with the push of a button. I just love that. The Roku works perfectly, except I have to go to the Roku Homepage on the remote to get to the Roku main channel menu, but I THINK I can change that, I haven't tried yet. The DVD player works perfectly as does the Uverse PVR and the TV. What more could I want?
I do recommend this remote if you're a bit tech savvy, but if you're not familiar with A/V devices, then you may have "issues" like I did. If you get lucky and can just tell the computer your model numbers and everything works from there....it's a breeze. And, for all I know, Logitech support "could be" great, but I could never get to them.
I do have another one of these remotes on the way from Amazon. I ordered it after I took back the 300 and the store didn't have anymore 650s in stock. I'm debating on setting it up for the family room. I want to/don't want to.....I may go ahead and try it because I really DO like the one I have and am a glutton for punishment! ;)
Logitech Remote Control,
by HABU in AZ, 2010-08-21
I was so spoiled with my first Logitech Harmony I couldn't wait to buy another one for another location. These units are so user-friendly and such time savers not having to switch from one remote to another. I use all three major operations (TV, DVD, and music)and never have a glitch with any of them. One minor complaint is the "OK" button, which is used rather often, is quite small, hence my mark down in ergonomics. Other than that, I will buy another as soon as the need arises. Great product!!
